FIRST NORMAN EVENT: NORMANDY PARADE 911-2011
On Friday 31st December 2010 from 5.30 to 6.30 p.m. the Association “Vie et Culture en Vallée du Commerce” will breathe life into an epic story in the very heart of the
city. A company of 100 actors, volunteers, dancers, jugglers, fire-eaters, horsemen and 50 local extra, will take over the streets to jump back in time before plunging into the New Year.
The show will unfold in three main sections.
5.30 p.m.: A parade of Vikings will travel from the Casino Square to the Morny Fountain.
The seven Dukes of Normandy will take over to retell the story of the birth of the Duchy, and then the “Heritage” will continue on the fresco up to the Liberation.
A series of 15 scenes will depict 1100 years of conquering, building and cultural history.
From Rollon the Viking to the protagonists of the Liberation, characters collide in a “Lights and Sound” show under the guidance of Yves Maugard, manager of the association, who, for more than 15 years, has been producing historical shows, both outdoors and
indoors with Cavalry and Fireworks, that put the Normandy Heritage under the spotlight (Cirque d’Hiver in Paris, Zénith of Rouen and Caen). At nightfall the “Duchy of William” will step into the Third Millennium.
Go back in time before moving forward into the New Year.
*The Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte was signed in Autumn 911 by Charles III the Simple and Rollon a Viking Chief. It allowed the Vikings to settle in Neustria provided that they would protect the kingdom of Charles III from a new invasion by the “Norse Men”.
