The Memorial Museum was built in 1967 on the site of the old station of Fleury-devant-Douamont village on the instigation of the War Veterans, particularly that of the great writer Maurice Genevoix.

His mission : to create a living testimony of the anonymous heroism and suffering at Verdun, to trive for the historical knowledge of events, the reconciliation, and European civic consciousness.
