Bayeux, famous for its tapestry recounting the conquest of England by William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, is also the capital of the Bessin area. It is an area with a veritable cultural identity and an abundance of treasures.
The Bessin, west of Caen in the central part of the Calvados department of Lower Normandy, is steeped in history, with the D-Day Landing beaches, its heritage of stately homes and châteaux, its gourmet food including cheese, seafood and the not-so-well known Bayeux pig.
The Bessin offers a real holiday, with plenty of surprises along its back lanes. If the cap fits, wear it!
