Cordés is a lovely XVth century château, its interior transformed in the XVIIth and XVIIIth ceturies by Marhal d’Allègre.
The drawing room is decorated with remarkable XVIIIth century gypsumstone furniture (beautiful Louis XVth furniture), and the vaulted guard room has a monumental fireplace.
In the chapel, the altar and reredos are made of XVIth century marble. There is a remarkable reclining figure of Yves II d’Allègre, Bayard and Gaston the Foix’s “compagnon” (master builder), who fell at the battle of Ravennes in 1512.
The garden and hedgerows of Cordés, created in 1695 and designed by Le Nôtre, are extremely interesting: rose garden, ornamental lake, turrets, view of Puy-de-Dôme.
