Château de Rouillac, on the outskirts of Bordeaux in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, is steeped in vine-growing history.
The 19th century château, the former home of Baron Haussmann, with its plain, majestic architecture set in the middle of a 38 hectare estate, is steeped in wine history.
This excellent terroir of stony topsoil over a subsoil of clay, facing due south, is an incentive for the Lafragette family to pursue its drive for optimal quality : hand-picked grapes carried in trug baskets to the cellars for stringent selection on the sorting table, vinification in wooden vats.
The wine from Château de Rouillac is very typical, complex, with aromas richly ripe soft fruit, supple and well-balanced on the palate, with fine, silky tannins. Ideal for cellaring.
